Behind the Work
I’m Jose Luis Marantes; my people call me “JLM,” I’m a time-tested leader, strategist, organizer, trainer, and lifelong believer in the power of people to create real change. Born and raised in Hialeah, FL, I’m a proud Cuban-American who’s spent the last two decades helping leaders get unstuck and on the path of enabling their teams to achieve purpose in the face of uncertainty.
I serve as the Chief Impact Officer at Hope Community Center in Orlando and director of Hope CommUniversity, where we’re raising up the next generation of changemakers. I’ve led national and state campaigns, coached 100+ executive leaders, and trained over 20,000 managers and leaders in the U.S. and Latin America on how to build equitable, sustainable, and results-driven organizations as a Partner trainer for the Management Center.
I cut my organizing teeth in the immigrant rights movement, helping shape the campaign that led over 800,000 young immigrants to adjust their status through DACA. (Shoutout to the Education Not Deportation crew—y’all know who you are.)
I co-founded United We Dream, the largest immigrant youth-led network in the U.S., and held senior leadership roles at Faith in Action, Center for Community Change, Mi Familia Vota, and the Florida Immigrant Coalition. I’ve also been honored as an Emerging Innovator by Ashoka Changemakers for helping bridge communities across languages and cultures right here in Orlando.
